Eddie Murphy stars as Maximillian, a Caribbean-born bloodsucker who comes to New York to find a suitable mate. He finds one in Detective Rita Veder (Angela Bassett), who is seduced by the suave Maximillian while investigating a rash of mysterious deaths... and doesn't realize her new paramour is the killer.
