Monday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m.: Introduction by producer Nan Kinney and programmers Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd!
In 1985, On Our Backs magazine publishers Nan Kinney and Debi Sundahl created Fatale Video, the first adult film studio dedicated to making movies by and for lesbians. Founded at the height of both the feminist sex wars over pornography and the AIDS epidemic, Fatale Video fearlessly sought to give lesbians an outlet to explore their sexuality in the midst of an increasingly repressive culture. This month, Cruising the Movies presents two later works by Fatale. In the first, SUBURBAN DYKES Pepper and Nina Hartley decide to spice up their relationship by calling a phone sex hotline before hiring professional dom Sharon Mitchell to give them what they can’t get over the phone. Then, in SAFE IS DESIRE, Allie decides to help her girlfriend Dion get over her fear of safe sex and kink by taking her to an all-lesbian San Francisco sex club.
Screening as part of our new queer series programmed and hosted by Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd, Cruising the Movies.
