35 years after winning the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, BABETTE’S FEAST remains one of the great food films of all time—at once a rousing paean to artistic creation, a delicate evocation of divine grace, and a deeply beloved treasure of cinema. Directed by Gabriel Axel and adapted from a story by Isak Dinesen, it is the lovingly layered tale of a French housekeeper (the legendary Stéphane Audran, star of numerous Claude Chabrol films) with a mysterious past who brings quiet revolution in the form of one exquisite meal to a circle of starkly pious villagers in late nineteenth-century Denmark. BABETTE’S FEAST combines earthiness and reverence in an indescribably moving depiction of sensual pleasure that goes to your head like fine champagne.

IFC Center is thrilled to partner with Cathédrale restaurant to celebrate the enduring power of BABETTE’S FEAST with special revival screenings of the film and a loving, one-night-only recreation of the movie’s eponymous climax on March 29—an extravagant four-course meal in the classic French grande cuisine style, under the direction Tao Group Hospitality’s Chief Culinary Officer, Ralph Scamardella, with the menu executed by Chef Jason Hall.

Film tickets are available at the links above.

Reservations for the special dinner at Cathédrale can be made here.
