For years, New Zealand’s island of Whakaari has drawn visitors from around the world with the opportunity to observe an active volcano basin. Oscar-nominated documentarian Kennedy (Last Days in Vietnam) vividly captures the horror and hope of that day, using the voices and cellphone footage of the survivors and of the brave rescuers who saved so many.
