Émilie (newcomer Lucie Zhang) rents her spare room to a handsome teacher (Makita Samba), but the two quickly become flatmates with benefits. Nora (Noémie Merlant, Portrait of a Lady on Fire) is mistaken for a webcam porn star and decides to track her counterpart down. Adapting a graphic novel by frequent New Yorker illustrator Adrian Tomine and filming in beautifully muted black and white in a decidedly unromantic corner of the City of Lights, Palme d’Or winner Audiard (A Prophet, Dheepan) explores love and longing in the 21st century.
“A silky, soulful black-and-white tapestry of single millennials seeking connection” – Peter Debruge, Variety
"Audiard’s touch here is light, sensitive and attentive as usual; you feel his fondness for these characters and their world in every frame." – Manhola Dargis, The New York Times
